Newly endorsed Nationals candidate for Page, Kevin Hogan will make an outstanding local MP, according to North Coast Nationals Senator, Fiona Nash.
The Senator was speaking after chairing the Page Nationals preselection in Ballina where Clunes businessman Kevin Hogan and Clarence Valley Mayor Richie Williamson went head to head to woo the support of around 100 grassroots party members from across the electorate.
“It was a tough choice with both candidates putting a very strong case, but the great thing about the Nationals is that we have very democratic processes.”
“Kevin has all the right credentials: a great family man, a passion for his community and strong commitments particularly in the areas of health, education and small business.”
“He is up against a Labor MP with a well-oiled spin machine and all the benefits of incumbency, but she can’t hide the fact that it is because of her and her Labor colleagues that we now have a carbon tax.”
“As I campaign alongside Kevin Hogan in the coming months, I will be reminding locals that the only way to get rid of the Gillard Labor Government is to vote out the local Labor MP.”
Senator Nash congratulated runner-up Richie Williamson and praised his pledge to campaign side by side with Mr Hogan.
“Richie was a great help to Chris Gulaptis in the State by-election last year and I am sure he will be invaluable in the coming federal campaign,” she said.
