Claims by the Greens that they’re rapidly becoming popular in the bush proves they are delusional, Nationals Senator for NSW, Fiona Nash said.
“The Greens pretty much stated regional Australians support the carbon tax soon after the legislation passed the senate,” she said.
“If we had ever wondered if the Greens did believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden, that was the absolute proof.
“I do not know who Senator Brown has been talking to out in regional communities but he has certainly not been talking to the majority of farmers because I can tell him that, absolutely, right now, the majority of farmers across this country do not want a carbon tax.
“But, no, Senator Brown cannot possibly let reality get in the way of a good story!”
Senator Nash said the Greens ran candidates in all 150 federal seats in last year’s election yet only secured one, in inner-city Melbourne.
“The Greens secured an 11.8 per cent primary vote in the House of Representatives and 13 per cent in the Senate. The other way to look at it is that more than 85 per cent of Australian electors voted for a party other than the Greens!
“They claim some bizarre mandate but that’s only because they’re in a cosy coalition with the Labor government. Regional communities are very worried that Greens have hijacked the Australian government’s agenda and what lies ahead.
“One thing for sure is that the Greens will push for a higher carbon price, having reaffirmed that pledge yesterday.”
