Dear Editor,
A week ago I issued a challenge to the Labor Members for Richmond and Page to debate the carbon tax in their electorates.
A year ago Prime Minister Gillard pledged to the Australian people that there would be no carbon tax under the government she’d lead and then went back on her word.
All the while the local Labor MPs, Justine Elliot and Janelle Saffin, have dutifully supported the PM instead of standing up for their electorates.
There is mounting evidence that the carbon tax will be bad for families, retirees, childcare, small business, industry, agriculture, aviation and tourism, all of which are prominent in Richmond and Page.
The local MPs need to explain why they think a carbon tax would still be a good thing, despite the obvious cost burden.
Perhaps your newspaper might have better luck convincing them that giving the people of the north coast the opportunity to hear from both sides on the carbon tax debate is the right thing to do, and the least their constituents deserve.
Yours sincerely,
Senator Fiona Nash
Nationals Duty Senator for Page and Richmond
