Dear Editor,
The Murray Darling Basin Authority will not commit to holding public meetings to discuss the draft basin plan when it’s released next month.
The MDBA chief executive, Rhondda Dickson, told senate estimates this week that there are no plans to hold community consultations similar to those held when the guide to the plan was released late last year.
She said the only way there would be public meetings is if communities requested them.
If this is what your community wants, then I urge it to let the MDBA know.
Murray basin communities deserve full and proper consultation. After all, the basin plan will affect their future.
The MDBA can be contacted on 1800 230 067 or 02 6279 0100, or by email engagement@mdba.gov.au.
It’s crucial that regional communities have their voices heard.
Yours sincerely,
Senator Fiona Nash
The Nationals Senator for NSW
