Nationals Senator Fiona Nash accused the Labor-Greens government of being too gutless to attend today’s Convoy of No Confidence rally and hear voters’ concerns first hand.
“The very fact that hundreds of people travelled from across Australia, from as far north as the Northern Territory, shows they are genuinely concerned about the direction that this hopeless minority government is taking the country,” she said.
“Yet there was a no show by Labor and the Greens who decided to hide in the confines of parliament house. Instead they dismissed the rally and Senator Brown labelled these Australians as whingers. The arrogance of Senator Brown to call them a “moaners brigade” is nothing short of gobsmacking.
“It would have been more constructive to attend the rally and speak to these people about their concerns as a responsible elected representative ought to do.
“I hope the regional Independents Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott had the decency to attend as the Nationals did.
“Many of the people were from regional Australia who are fed up with this city-centric government dictating and bungling policy, costing the taxpayer billions of dollars in waste.
“There was a lot of concern too about the impact of a carbon tax, food security, the fallout from banning live cattle exports and lack of leadership to name a few.
“These people come from all walks of life, many travelling thousands of kilometres to attend the rally. Labor and the Greens’ disregard for their views is arrogant and appalling.
“Little wonder why so many Australians are becoming disillusioned.”
