The NSW Nationals’ Senator, Fiona Nash, says she’ll spend the next term making sure regional Australia gets a fair deal.
She was today officially confirmed as senator for New South Wales by the Australian Electoral Commission.
“The Nationals have a good story to tell from last month’s federal election. We secured an average primary vote of 38.8 percent, and recorded a nationwide primary vote swing of 6 percent. We won 12 of the 24 seats contested and secured another senate spot, in Victoria,” Senator Nash said.
“It is a vote of confidence in the Nationals as the party that truly represents the needs of rural and regional communities.
“We are determined to hold the Labor minority government to account on issues of concern to rural and regional people, such as health, water, infrastructure and telecommunications.
“As the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Education, I’ll also push for equity between the regions and cities, across all education sectors; and for fair and equitable access to the independent Youth Allowance for regional students.”
