Labor misleading voters on its health plan

The NSW Nationals Senator, Fiona Nash, has accused the federal Labor government of misleading the public about its national health plan.

“The Labor government’s been advertising and pitching its national health plan to voters, despite it not even being passed by parliament,” Senator Nash said.

“The legislation’s been introduced to parliament but it hasn’t been debated.

“How can Labor honestly say its health plan will happen? It’s been duping voters all along.”

Senator Nash said Labor’s proposed Health Plan would see more bureaucracy, a complicated funding structure, and gives no guarantee that funding will flow to front line services.

“The planned closure of the Gulgong hospital in central west NSW is a sign of what to expect if a Labor federal government is re-elected,” she said.

“The Greater Western Area Health Service says the hospital’s closing for safety reasons after asbestos was found in the building. But even the nurses union says the GWAHS and NSW Labor government failed to provide the funding needed replace the outdated buildings.”

The Nationals Leader, Warren Truss, gave a commitment yesterday that a National-Liberal Government would save Gulgong’s health services by building a fully equipped Multipurpose Service.

“We would stop the closure of more hospitals in regional areas, that are currently under threat from Labor’s health reform plan,” Senator Nash said.

“A National-Liberal Government would instead deliver more beds, doctors, nurses and dentists. “Most importantly, communities will have more say on how their local health services and hospitals are run.”
