Health infrastructure for regional communities

Regional and rural towns in NSW will have a share of $85 million dollars to build much needed health infrastructure, Nationals Senator, Fiona Nash, said.

The Coalition announced the $85 million Community Health Fund today.

Local hospitals and community health organisations can apply for funding to buy health equipment such as MRI, CT and PET scanners, and for capital works.

“This will help prevent rural-based patients from travelling long distances for scans and specialist health services,” Senator Nash said.

“And local health organisations decide what’s needed, not bureaucrats. It’s part of our plan to give communities more say on how their local health services and hospitals are run.

“Today’s infrastructure funding complements our other health commitments. They are $3.1 billion for 2800 new public hospital beds to reduce waiting lists; 800 mental health beds; and more scholarships, university places and financial incentives to attract and retain rural nurses, doctors and dentists.

“Labor promised to fix the health service and instead plans to create a bigger bureaucracy.”
