Many Australians are unaware of exactly what The Greens stand for, and The Greens’ policies on immigration and refugees will have Australians extremely concerned, says The Nationals Senator for NSW, Fiona Nash.
“I am extremely concerned that under The Greens’ policies we will have illegal immigrants and refugees freely roaming the streets, after a fortnight of arriving,” Senator Nash said.
The Greens outline in their policies that they will assist asylum seekers without delay to move them into the community in as little as 14 days after they arrive with no medical or security check.
Point 26 of the Immigration and Refugees section of the Australian Greens policy is to grant asylum seekers an asylum application visa (AAV) and assist without delay their move into the community provided medical and security checks are satisfied or after 14 days has passed, whichever occurs first.
"I believe Australians want to know our borders are secure, and that appropriate processes are undertaken before people are allowed to reside within our communities.
"The Greens’ policy to allow asylum seekers to live in our communities before medical and security checks are carried out is a huge concern.
“They will also ensure asylum seekers have access to entitlement to travel, work, income support and access to ongoing education and medical services.”
Point 27 of The Greens’ Immigration and Refugees policy section states ensure asylum seekers living in the community while their claim is assessed will be granted an AAV which will entitle them to travel, work, income support and access to ongoing educational and medical services anywhere within Australia while their claims for asylum are assessed.
The Greens’ also oppose the ‘Australian values’ test, which is a prerequisite for citizenship or entry to Australia. The test forms part of the entry requirement to ensure new residents value and respect the Australian way of life and obey the laws of Australia.
“It seems the Greens’ just want to open the floodgates to Australia, regardless of the consequences. These policies potentially put all Australians at risk.”
