Regional areas to benefit from Education Tax Rebate

An increase to the Education Tax Rebate has been welcomed by The Nationals’ Senator for NSW, Fiona Nash.  The increase, to the rebate, would start in January 2011 and will include a wider variety of expenses, than proposed by Labor.

“The expansion to the rebate will ensure regional Australians also receive their fair share,” Senator Nash said.

The Coalition will increase the rebate up to $500 per year per child in primary school (up from Labor’s $390), and up to $1000 for children in secondary school (up from Labor’s $779).

“This expansion of the Education Tax Rebate will provide real assistance to parents, and help ease pressure on family budgets,” Senator Nash said.

The Education Tax Rebate will be significantly expanded to include:
·       Government and non-government school fees
·       Camps and excursions
·       Special education costs for children with disabilities, like dyslexia
·       Extra-curricular activities, such as music, dance or drama lessons
·       Tutoring costs
·       Musical instruments required for lessons
·       School photos
·       Sporting fees and equipment

“Labor originally promised a $4.4 billion Rebate, but has since cut funding available by $1.6 billion – a clear broken promise to Australian families.

“Labor has no plan for job creation, no plan for regional Australia and no capacity to rein in wasteful, reckless spending and stopping the cost blowouts of Government projects.”
