Two new Federal Government programmes are being launched in Young on Friday aimed at increasing job opportunities – especially for disadvantaged groups – at Burrangong Meat Processors (BMP). Explaining the programmes, Nationals’ Senator for New South Wales Fiona Nash said the first project is aimed at addressing demand for skills and labour while increasing the workforce participation of unemployed people – including those with disabilities, parents, mature aged and Indigenous Australians – in Young and the surrounding region. “The project is under the Structured Training and Employment Projects (STEP) and it aims to employ up to 75 Indigenous people at the Burrangong Meat Works over the next 12 months,” Senator Nash said. “STEP creates jobs for Indigenous Australians by providing funding for tailored assistance, including structured and accredited training, which enables employers to provide long-term jobs. “The second project, under the Government’s Welfare to Work, Employer Demand and Workforce Flexibility strategy, has up to 120 places for unemployed people, with many of these sourced from the local Job Network and other employment service providers, in partnership with Burrangong Meat Works. “Both Australian Government funded projects will make significant in-roads into meeting local business needs, reducing unemployment in the Young region and boosting the district’s economy.” Media Contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
