Nationals’ Senator for New South Wales, Senator Fiona Nash has today praised the work of local farmers Donald and Julie McFarlane, with the couple profiled on the Senator’s new website for their win in the NSW Field Wheat Competition. Senator Nash said the profile on the Young-based couple is the first of many that will feature on the website, honouring the numerous and varied contributions being made by Australians around the state. “I plan to use my website not only as a way of communicating with constituents, but also as a way of showcasing the various achievements of Australians – particularly in rural and regional areas,” Senator Nash said. “Travelling around the state, I get to see first hand the tireless efforts being made by many Australians in a variety of fields and backgrounds. From personal achievements, to fundraising, to the work of volunteer organisations. “With my website, I intend to bring these achievements to a wider audience by profiling a different accomplishment each month. “The McFarlane’s recent win in the state-wide cropping competition is the first to be profiled. Having like so many, battled through the drought, the McFarlane’s have implemented their crop management plan to reap a successful harvest – a fine example of the perseverance and determination that characterises rural and regional Australia.” Senator Nash urged residents to nominate people in the community they think deserve recognition. “It may be an individual or group, a company or a volunteer organisation. It may be in any number of fields from the arts to agriculture, science to sport. Simply log on to the website www.fionanash.com.au to find out more.” Those profiled on the website will receive a certificate of achievement from Senator Nash, with their photo and a story outlining their efforts, chronicled on the website.
