While ever there is a negative impact on regional communities from an ETS I will not support it, not now, not ever, said Senator Fiona Nash, NSW Senator and Deputy Leader of the Nationals in the Senate. “Voting against the Rudd Labor Government’s ETS was the only option today and will be the only course of action if this same ETS comes back in 90 days,” Senator Nash said. “The Nationals have stood against this ETS from day one and will not support any scheme that rips the heart out of regional communities. “Today’s vote affirms the stand against the ETS and our commitment to the people who will bear the brunt of this tax grab. An ETS does not necessarily mean a cleaner, healthier future for the environment. “The guessing game of whether agriculture is included or not is no closer to resolution and Australian dinner plates will be piled high with imported food if local growers and manufacturers have to compete with countries with no emissions tax. This uncertainty must end.”
