The many and varied achievements of Australians in rural and regional areas will be showcased on a new website being launched today. Nationals’ Senator for New South Wales, Senator Fiona Nash is calling on nominations for candidates to feature as part of the ‘In Profile’ section of her new website – a segment dedicated entirely to telling the story of ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things. “I plan to use my website not only as a way of communicating with constituents, but also as a way of showcasing the various achievements of Australians – particularly in rural and regional areas,” Senator Nash said. “Travelling around the state, I get to see first hand the tireless efforts being made by many Australians in a variety of fields and backgrounds. From personal achievements, to fundraising, to the work of volunteer organisations. “With my website, I intend to bring these achievements to a wider audience by profiling a different accomplishment each month.” Senator Nash said the first profile on the website centres on the achievements of a Young-based couple, honoured for their recent win in the NSW Field Wheat Competition. “Having like so many, battled through the drought, farmers Donald and Julie McFarlane have implemented a successful crop management plan to reap a successful harvest – a fine example of the perseverance and determination that characterises rural and regional Australia.” Senator Nash urged residents to nominate people in the community they think deserve recognition. “It may be an individual or group, a company or a volunteer organisation. It may be in any number of fields from the arts to agriculture, science to sport. Simply log on to the website www.fionanash.com.au to find out more.” Those profiled on the website will receive a certificate of achievement from Senator Nash, with their photo and a story outlining their efforts, chronicled on the website.
