The North Coast has been cruelly cheated, with the Federal Government now giving up on its pre-election promise, echoed by North Coast Labor MPs Justine Elliot and Janelle Saffin, that ‘Kevin Rudd will fix our hospitals’, according to NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash.
“Federal Labor Health Minister Nicola Roxon claimed on Sunday there had ‘been ‘significant developments’ and ‘positive signs of improvements’ in public hospitals.

“That shows Labor is completely out of touch with the North Coast. NSW Labor is axing four hundred jobs from local hospitals, doctors and suppliers aren’t being paid, maternity services are being slashed and cancer patients are sent to the cities.”
“I call on North Coast Labor MPs Janelle Saffin and Justine Elliot to detail the net improvements to local hospitals claimed by their Minister,” Senator Nash demanded.
“Both were elected on the back of the promise that Mr Rudd would fix out hospitals, but both have remained silent on their Government’s failure to keep that promise,” Senator Nash said.”
She said the specific Rudd Labor pre-election promise was: “If State Governments have not improved services by mid 2009, a Rudd Labor Government will seek to take control of all Australia’s 750 public hospitals.”

“Before the election Mr Rudd proclaimed that ‘when it comes to health, the buck stops with me’, but now he is passing the buck like a hot brick, right at the time North Coast patients desperately need Government investment in the crumbling public hospital system.”
“The fact that Janelle Saffin and Justine Elliot stand by and let this happen shows just how ineffective they are,” Senator Nash concluded.
