Nash welcomes new Victorian Nationals Senate candidate
NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash has congratulated the Victorian Nationals grassroots members on preselecting university lecturer Bridget McKenzie as their candidate for the Senate at the next federal election due in 2010. “I know Bridget well. She has long been a great fighter for regional communities and will make a great champion for country Victoria, Senator Nash said. “As a highly educated country mother of four, Ms McKenzie is part of the new breed of Nationals along with local champions like new Gippsland MP, Darren Chester.” Senator Nash said regional Victoria had suffered from not having its own representative in the Senate in recent years. “That will change with Bridget, who is known for her forceful and tenacious advocacy of the issues she believes in, particularly regional education and the environment.” “She has extensive experience in dealing with government departments, project management and bringing diverse interests together to achieve successful outcomes.” Ms McKenzie is a lecturer at Monash University Gippsland at Churchill. Her main leisure interests include spending time with her family and sports including netball, triathlons, sailing and horse riding.
