“...I will continue to fight for a fair share for the North Coast...” North Coast Nationals Senator, Fiona Nash, has pledged her resignation from the Coalition Shadow Ministry would not impact on her ongoing commitment to the NSW North Coast. Senator Nash on Monday quit her position as Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Water Resources and Conservation, after voting with Nationals Senate colleagues and the Greens against carbon sink tax breaks, which the Nationals say are against the interests of country Australians. “It gives big business a tax break, while farmers get nothing and country jobs disappear – there is no way I could wear that,” Senator Nash said. “Unlike Labor which expels you for voting against the party line, Nationals members of Parliament are always free to vote according to their beliefs,” Senator Nash said. “Moreover my special role as the alternative representative for North Coast residents remains unchanged.” “I have been to the North Coast three times in the past month, including on Saturday at Tweed Heads to support the fight against NSW Labor’s 400 jobs cuts to North Coast Hospitals.” “I will be back on the North Coast soon and encourage locals disillusioned with the weak representations by their local Labor federal members to contact me.” “Inside or outside the Shadow Ministry, I will continue to fight for a fair share for the North Coast,” Senator Nash concluded.
