“…strong representations from Coalition basin MPs …”
Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Water Resources and Conservation, Senator Fiona Nash will next week embark on a 3000km tour of the Murray-Darling Basin with high profile Shadow Environment Minister, Greg Hunt MP.
“This is a key difference between Labor and the Coalition: they dictate policy from Canberra whereas we go out and listen to the people who are affected”, Senator Nash said.
The Nationals Senator’s week-long trip will take her through four states from Toowoomba in Queensland to Goolwa in South Australia, visiting numerous basin communities in New South Wales and Victoria along the way.
“We get strong representations from Federal basin MPs, like Bruce Scott, John Cobb, Mark Coulton, Kay Hull, Susan Ley, Sophie Mirabella, Fran Bailey, Sharman Stone and John Forrest. It is at their invitation that we are now going to meet stakeholders on their own turf,” Senator Nash said.
“These people are all deeply committed to their land and water resources, and they are justifiably worried about ‘Canberra-knows-best’ dictates emanating from the Rudd Government.”
Senator Nash said she was looking forward to meeting farmers and irrigators in Dalby, St George, Mungindi, Moree, Narrabri, Gunnedah, Coonabarabran, Gilgandra, Dubbo, Narrandera, Hume Weir, Wangaratta, Eildon, Seymour, Shepparton, Echuca, Barham, Kerang, Swan Hill, Robinvale, Mildura, Wentworth, Renmark, Waikerie, Murray Bridge and Goolwa.
