Richmond Labor MP Justine Elliot needs to stand up and fight against the downgrade of Murwillumbah Hospital, as promised during the 2007 election campaign, Nationals North Coast Senator Fiona Nash declared during a visit to the Tweed today. “I met with Murwillumbah Hospital doctors yesterday, and along with the thousands who showed up at the recent protest rally, they are extremely concerned about the future of the hospital,” Senator Nash said. “Mrs Elliot was conspicuous by her absence at the rally, despite promising in election advertisements last year that ‘Kevin Rudd will fix our hospitals’.” “Two days later she was on the front page of the Daily News with Sydney Labor Health Minister Reba Meagher who also failed to visit Murwillumbah.” “On 30 August 2007, she also stood outside Murwillumbah Hospital with now Health Minister Nicola Roxon spruiking Federal Labor’s hospital fix policy.” “However Mrs Elliot has now taken up the Chris Crawford line, telling local media she is not aware of any plans to downgrade the hospital.” “Someone is not telling the truth. It has become a question of who do you trust: the Labor pollies or the doctors and nurses at Murwillumbah Hospital?” To interview Senator Fiona Nash, please call her 0428 864 845
