Pay Casino Ethanol cash, Saffin told by Nash

“…a betrayal of the people who have only just elected Ms Saffin …” North Coast Nationals Duty Senator Fiona Nash is demanding Page MP Janelle Saffin use her influence in the Rudd Government to come good on a $2.2 million commitment from the previous government to fund the development of a new ethanol plant in Casino. “We know the project will boost the Richmond Valley economy by $5 million a week. What other evidence does Labor need that is a very good investment for the Government to make if it has any interest in Casino?” Senator Nash asked. “We announced the funding last year under the Regional Partnerships program, which Labor has since axed citing its impact on inflation and an alleged lack of transparency, Senator Nash said. “However in this case, neither argument holds water. $2.2 million will have no inflationary impact on a trillion-dollar economy and the applicants went through an exhaustive application process.” “This project means jobs for Casino, it is ground breaking green technology and it reduces our reliance on ever more expensive imported oil.” “Janelle Saffin needs to fight for this money with the same vigour and success as her Nationals predecessor, Ian Causley.” “Anything less amounts to a betrayal of the people who have only just elected her,” Senator Nash concluded.
