Elliot wrong on Tweed skate park approval

“As far as we were concerned it was locked in and fully funded…” North Coast Nationals Duty Senator Fiona Nash today said Richmond MP Justine Elliot was misleading the Tweed with her claims funding for a South Tweed Heads skate park had not been approved by the previous Government. “The funding under Regional Partnerships was approved before the Government entered caretaker mode and then announced during the campaign,” Senator Nash said. “As far as we were concerned it was locked in and fully funded, with only the paperwork to be signed.” “What has happened since is that the Rudd Government has reneged on approved projects, including this one as well as funding for the church hall in Kingscliff.” Senator Nash said Rudd Labor had cancelled the projects on ideological grounds, claiming Regional Partnerships was National Party pork barrelling. This had been confirmed in a Senate Estimates hearing earlier this month. “Faced with Tweed community outrage, Labor has done another backflip and will no doubt re-approve the projects, cynically badging them as a new Labor initiative.” “What this means for the proponents is more paperwork, what it means for Tweed skaters is a longer wait, and what it means for Justine Elliot is a further loss of credibility.”
