Dates Cafe

Dates Cafe
Rural areas – particularly small towns and villages – are not often renowned for their culinary delights, however one couple in the Central West of NSW are changing all of that. The tastebuds of residents in Crowther and surrounds have never had it so good after couple Don and Kate moved to the area to open a road-side restaurant and café in the district. Up until a short time ago, Crowther – located on the Olympic Highway half way between Cowra and Young – consisted of little more than a war memorial and a dis-used roadhouse. Don and Kate quickly saw the enormous potential of the old Crowther service station building and its ideal roadside location and before long moved inland. Just a short time later, Dates café is fast becoming a hotspot for locals and tourists alike. Lunch and dinner menus are available both week-days and throughout the weekend with diners greeted by a cosy atmosphere and plenty of home-style meals all cooked by Kate. Theme nights are also popular among regulars with curry nights and Italian-themed cooking nights some of the favourites. Tourists visiting from the city would also be pleasantly surprised by the caffeine fixes available at the café with everything for the coffee connoisseur. “There’s a big misconception among many city-dwellers that good food and wine is only available at big city restaurants,” Senator Nash said. “Dates Café certainly challenges this idea with many treasures just like it popping up throughout rural and regional Australia, offering locals and tourists fine dining that would rival many city-based eateries. “I certainly congratulate Don and Kate for taking the plunge and making the move west and I wish them the very best as they make the most of their tree change.”
