PCYC Tweed Heads

PCYC Tweed Heads
To walk through the front doors of the revamped PCYC building at Tweed Heads, it is hard to believe it was once a tired run-down old building in much need of an overhaul. Today, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the local PCYC and the larger local community, the revamped Tweed Heads PCYC auditorium is certainly a facility to be proud of. On hand to open the new facilities - which have been funded in part by the Federal Coalition Government - Senator Nash said the enthusiasm and energy of all those involved in the project made the entire team perfect for Australians In Profile. "I was just so impressed by the new facilities and the passion and involvement of the local community in the auditorium project," Senator Nash said. "Everyone I met at the opening who had been involved with the project's development - from the PCYC management to the builders, electricians and volunteers - were from the local community. It has just been such a group effort from the local people who obviously take great pride in their community." Speaking at the launch, Tweed Heads PCYC manager Mark Madden confirmed the new building had been a community effort, with the project involving an extension of over 500 square metres to the existing facility. Mr Madden recalled the cramped circumstances which existed prior to the development and the vast range of activities now on offer thanks to the expanded facilities which include a multi-purpose auditorium, education room, games room, band rehearsal room, new offices and amenities. Youth activities and services at the Tweed Heads PCYC are actually expected to increase by 20 per cent in the next 12 months thanks to the development. "The programs and activities offered by PCYC clubs across Australia are invaluable to the local communities they serve," Senator Nash said. "The PCYC in Tweed Heads is certainly no different, having served the local community for more than ten years - forging strong community partnerships and helping young people grow and develop. "Thanks to the vision and determination of the local PCYC and indeed the broader community, the Tweed Heads PCYC will continue to provide these and many more invaluable services for many years to come."
