Plans by Orange Regional Gallery to develop an exhibition focusing on the role of food in Australian culture were boosted today with news the Australian Government is committing $36,500 to the project. In making the announcement, Nationals’ Senator for New South Wales Senator Fiona Nash congratulated the gallery on securing the funding which was made available through the Government’s Visions of Australia program – a program aimed at helping organisations like museums, libraries and galleries develop and tour exhibitions nationally. Senator Nash explained the exhibition entitled Cuisine & Country: A Culinary Venture in Australian Art, will include up to 60 artworks from both public and private collections, showcasing the diverse range of food in Australia – both now and in the past. “The plans for this exhibition are very exciting,” Senator Nash said. “The exhibition will feature paintings, graphics, photographs, sculptures and installations from some of the most talented artists in Australia, including works from Indigenous artists. “Once developed, it’s hoped the exhibition will tour the country, reaching an even wider regional audience that would not normally have access to it. “The Government has provided more than $800,000 in this latest round of funding, for the development and exhibition of similar projects around the country – part of a wider commitment by the Howard-Vaile Government to ensuring all Australians have the opportunity to enjoy our rich and diverse cultural collections, regardless of where they live.” A full list of the latest round of funding recipients can be found at www.dcita.gov.au Media Contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
