Senator Nash met with teachers and students at Fingal Head Public School today during the official opening of works undertaken at the school thanks to funding from the Federal Coalition Government under the highly successful Investing in Our Schools Programme. Senator Nash said the school received funding of $150,000 from the Coalition to help construct a new multi-purpose building at the school which housed this mornings official proceedings which included student performances. “I’ve had the pleasure of visiting many schools in the local region over the last few months to see first hand the countless benefits the Investing in Our Schools Programme has provided for local school communities,” Senator Nash said. “The performances of the students during this morning’s assembly were outstanding. I was very impressed by their creativity and enthusiasm and it’s wonderful the Federal Coalition has been able to contribute to such a fantastic facility for the teachers, students and the wider community of Fingal Head. “Since the start of the programme, $6 million has been injected in this region alone to enhance the learning environment of local schools. This money has funded more than 180 various projects in 55 schools which is a fantastic result for local students.” A massive $1.2 billion has been invested in schools across the country through the Coalition’s Investing in Our Schools Programme to fund small scale infrastructure projects that have been identified and prioritised by the local school community. “By focusing on delivering small-scale projects that have been identified as a priority by the school, the Federal Coalition is providing local communities with a voice to determine what they think is important for their particular school,” Senator Nash said. Programme funding is on top of the nearly $1.7 billion provided by the Coalition Government to support government school capital works projects undertaken by State and Territory Governments during 2005-2008 period.
