NATS STILL THE SOLE VOICE FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES

The role of The Nationals in Federal Parliament is now more important than ever as the newly elected Labor Party has no understanding or vision for rural and regional Australia, NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash said today. Senator Nash said unlike the Labor Party, The Nationals – led by newly elected leader Warren Truss along with his deputy and Senate leader Senator Nigel Scullion – will continue to fight hard in both houses of parliament to ensure the interests of non-metropolitan communities are not ignored. “Rudd’s lack of regional policy throughout the campaign was astounding and a clear indication of just how far down his priority list the interests of rural and regional Australia really are,” Senator Nash said. “The Nationals remain the only party whose sole focus is on representing the interests of the 7.5 million people who live outside the metropolitan areas. “Our role as representatives of rural and regional communities is now more important than ever, ensuring the Rudd Labor Government is held accountable for the promises they’ve made during the campaign – particularly in relation to the roll-out of a high speed FTTN broadband network. “I congratulate our new leadership team and look forward to working with leader Warren Truss and his deputy and new Senate leader Senator Scullion and his deputy in the Senate Senator Boswell, to continue the work of the previous Coalition Government of delivering results for local communities.” Media contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
