An exhibition developed by Bathurst Regional Gallery will tour the country thanks to a $95,000 funding grant from the Howard-Vaile Government, announced today by Nationals’ Senator for New South Wales, Senator Fiona Nash.
Senator Nash said the Janet Dawson: Survey Exhibition will tour a number of areas, from the Mornington Peninsula in the south to St Lucia in the north and a number of places in between – all part of the Government’s Visions of Australia program.
“The Visions of Australia program is aimed at helping organisations develop and tour exhibitions such as the Janet Dawson exhibit, which has been curated by Christine France,” Senator Nash said.
Senator Nash explained the exhibition showcases the many and varied works of Janet Dawson, spanning a career of 45 years.
“The collection – made up of around 55 paintings, drawings and prints along with memorabilia highlighting her work in theatre and design – will travel to Acton, The Rocks, St Lucia, Hobart and Mornington during the tour which is planned to kick off in 2007.
“The Government has provided more than $800,000 in this latest round of funding, for the development and exhibition of similar projects around the country – part of a wider commitment by the Howard-Vaile Government to ensuring all Australians have the opportunity to enjoy our rich and diverse cultural collections, regardless of where they live.”
Along with the Janet Dawson exhibit, Senator Nash said Bathurst audiences will soon have the opportunity to view an exhibition celebrating 25 years of contemporary Australian art and craft, which is also touring the country in 2007 with the help of Visions of Australia funding.
