Senator Nash today congratulated the local community for their enthusiasm and dedication in creating the 2007 Remembrance Day Exhibition at Kingscliff. Senator Nash joined local residents for the official opening of the exhibition, presenting acting Kingscliff RSL sub-branch president Brian Vickery with a certificate in recognition of a $3,000 grant the branch secured under the Federal Coalition’s Saluting Their Service programme, to help towards the cost of the exhibition. “The exhibition is a credit to the local RSL branch members who must all be congratulated on putting together such a wonderful collection that certainly serves to remind us all of the sacrifices made by those who have served our country during conflict,” Senator Nash said. “When the Federal Coalition introduced the Saluting Their Service programme, they did so with the intent of encouraging community participation in commemorative activities across the country and this exhibition does exactly that – engaging the community, both young and old in a way that informs through interaction. “Importantly, many local students in the area will have the chance to visit the exhibition and become more aware of the contribution veterans have made to Australia’s military history, so congratulations once again to all those involved in creating such a wonderful living testament to our country’s history.” Senator Nash encouraged Australians to pause for one minute’s silence on Remembrance Day to remember the sacrifice of those who have fought for peace. “It’s important for everyone, wherever they may be at 11am on November 11, to pause to remember the men and women who have died fighting to protect our way of life, and particularly those members of the Australian Defence Force who are currently serving overseas.” Media contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
