NEW WEBSITE PUTS THE ‘NET’ INTO NETWORKING

Families in rural and regional areas will benefit from a new website launched today which Senator Fiona Nash believes is the perfect example of how the internet is working to bridge the physical divide for country communities. In Orange to officially launch the ‘Australian Family Matters’ website, Senator Nash said the internet has become an important tool in overcoming the tyranny of distance for rural and regional communities and today’s launch will help families in country areas develop stronger ties within their region. “Rural towns and villages are somewhat renowned for their strong sense of community thanks largely to the strong network that exists within an area,” Senator Nash said. “However it can be hard to tap into these networks when families are new to an area, and harder still to know where to go for the support and facilities families often need. “That’s where the ‘Australian Family Matters’ website comes in, providing families with the right information at the right time as easily as possible. It’s about encouraging families to get support when they need it, encouraging them not to live in isolation but to seek help and share their experiences with others. “The website will help our communities remain strong by encouraging networking among families, ensuring vibrant rural communities well into the future. “I certainly admire the Rossiters for their dedication and their leadership. It’s wonderful they’ve decided to use their experience to establish something that will hopefully become a useful tool for communities not just in our region, but right around the country. “More and more the internet is becoming the tool that bridges the divide between city and country areas and it’s vital all communities have access to fast, reliable broadband to take advantage of the services on offer online, which is why the Federal Coalition Government has put a plan into action that will deliver high-speed broadband to all Australians – regardless of where they live. “The $2 billion Communications Fund has also been established by the Coalition to ensure an ongoing funding stream is available to pay for telecommunication upgrades in rural and regional areas to ensure the bush is not left behind when it comes to advances in technology down the track.” Media contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
