Nationals Senator Fiona Nash today announced three new Work for the Dole activities for the Richmond electorate. Senator Nash said the recently finalised Work for the Dole activities are providing 39 places for local job seekers. “Almost 400 new Work for the Dole activities have been approved right across the country in this latest round offering more than 4,000 new opportunities for job seekers to gain valuable work experience,” Senator Nash said. Senator Nash explained Work for the Dole allows job seekers to gain experience in fields they may not have worked in before such as hospitality, retail or horticulture. “It’s important that Work for the Dole is relevant to the local labour market, giving as many people as possible the chance to get the highly sought after experience they need to get a job.” Senator Nash congratulated the local Community Work Coordinators and activity sponsors who have developed the activities in the local area. By undertaking a Work for the Dole placement job seekers are able to qualify for training credits of up to $800, which they can use to build and extend the valuable work skills they gain through Work for the Dole. Since it was introduced in 1997, almost 600,000 unemployed Australians have taken part in almost 35,000 Work for the Dole activities nationally.
