The Federal Liberal-Nationals Government will provide more than $1000 to the Wommin Bay Hostel towards the cost of memorial plaques for the Kingscliff Memorial Walkway, Nationals Senator Fiona Nash said today. Senator Nash said the funding of $1,108 has been allocated under the latest round of the Federal Coalition’s Saluting Their Service programme. Senator Nash explained the plaques are the finishing touches to the walkway located at the end of Murphy’s Road which was proposed by the Wommin Bay Hostel and constructed and funded by the local council as part of the Coastline Management Plan. “The memorial walkway has been established with great care and pride and I’m very pleased to be able to announce funding from the Federal Coalition to add the finishing touches to such a wonderful project,” Senator Nash said. The funding will go towards funding a series of plaques regarding conflicts which involved Australian troops. Local schools have been involved in the research and design of the plaques. “I certainly congratulate all those involved in making this project a reality; it really is a fitting tribute to those who have served our country proudly during wartime and I’m very pleased the Coalition has been able to support this project,” Senator Nash said. The Saluting Their Service programme encourages community participation in commemorative activities honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have served Australia in wars, conflicts and peace operations.
