Cheaper housing, safer communities and plenty of wide open spaces. They are just some of the many benefits associated with country living that will be on show at the 2007 Country Week Expo in Sydney this weekend.
Over 60 councils and towns from around the state – from Albury to Armidale and many in between – will converge on Sydney this weekend to showcase the best of what living in the bush has to offer. A resident of a rural community herself, Senator Nash said the expo, now in its fourth year in Sydney, is a wonderful opportunity for rural and regional areas to show people looking for a tree change, exactly what will greet them on the other side of the great divide.
“Many people, particularly families, in metropolitan areas are looking for a tree change but perhaps are not sure which areas would best suit their circumstances,” Senator Nash said.
“The expo gives these families the chance to sample a variety of areas from all over the state in the one location, right at their front door, saving them the time and costs associated with lengthy travel.”
Senator Nash explained Country Week is the only coordinated programme allowing ‘face to face’ contact between the residents of metropolitan Sydney and the communities of rural and regional NSW.
“The opportunities for living and working in regional areas are endless and Country Week enables these benefits to be promoted to a fresh audience,” Senator Nash said.
“Communities benefit from the increase in residents and visitors to their towns, and of course those who take up the offer to see these communities first hand, are certainly rewarded by the lifestyle that awaits them.”
Senator Nash will visit the expo on Sunday, 12 August 2007 to meet exhibitors and visitors and to present the Exhibitor Awards on behalf of the Federal Coalition Government.
The Federal Coalition Government supports Country Week, and has provided $40,000 towards the staging of this year’s event.
