NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash said two groups in the local area will share in $4,000 from the Federal Coalition Government to help fund projects which encourage the community to recognise and honour the contribution made by Australia’s service personnel. Senator Nash said the grants had been approved as part of the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service commemorations programme. The local groups to receive funding include: • South Tweed Sports Club – $2,235 Project: Install a plaque in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Garden at the South Tweed Sports Club dedicated to D Company 6 R.A.R. The plaque will include the complete words of President Johnson’s Presidential Citation of 1968. A plaque dedication ceremony will be held at the club during a luncheon scheduled to be held in August 2007. • St Joseph’s College, Banora Point – $2,000 Project: Create a memorial garden in the grounds of St Joseph’s College to be used by students on days of commemoration. “I congratulate the two groups for their proactive approach in ensuring the sacrifices of service personnel is recognised for generations to come. It’s projects such as these that make certain the roles played by men and women throughout the country in serving our nation are never forgotten.” Senator Nash said the Saluting Their Service programme is designed to help raise community awareness of the service and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women and to educate younger Australians about the nation’s wartime history.
