NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash today joined members of the Murwillumbah community to announce Federal Government funding of $220,000 for the redevelopment of the Memorial Pool Complex in Murwillumbah. Senator Nash said the Coalition had given in-principle approval for funding, allocated under the Coalition’s Regional Partnerships programme, towards the establishment of a hydrotherapy pool which will provide countless benefits for many in the region. “Hydrotherapy pools are a wonderful source of therapy and respite for a wide range of people, from the elderly in the community through to those with a disability or patients needing rehabilitation,” Senator Nash said. “Today’s funding announcement will ensure all of these people have access to a first class facility right here in Murwillumbah. “The Liberal/National Coalition is committed to ensuring local communities have access to health facilities in the region and today’s announcement is one example of the results The Nationals are delivering on the ground for people of the local area.” Senator Nash took the opportunity to congratulate the local community for their work in accessing funding, along with the work of the Northern Rivers Area Consultative Committee. “I would also like to acknowledge the financial support provided by Tweed Shire Council and the Mt Warning AM Rotary Club of Murwillumbah both of which have worked for some time to raise considerable funds towards this project.” The Regional Partnerships programme continues the Coalition Government’s approach of working with local communities to support their ideas. A total of $271.2 million is available under the Regional Partnerships programme from 2006-07 to 2009-10. Media contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
