$55,000 FUNDING FOR ALSTONVILLE FOOD BUSINESS

Alstonville-based business ‘Playing with Fire’ has been awarded a $54,937 grant from the Federal Coalition Government under the Food Processing in Regional Australia Programme (FPRAP), NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash announced today. Senator Nash said Playing with Fire is one of a number of companies to receive a share in $2.3 million in grants for food processing projects designed to enhance gourmet food production in Australia. “40 per cent of Australia’s food processing takes place in rural areas so it’s important to explore ways in which companies can value-add to their produce before it leaves the area,” Senator Nash said. “24 applicants have been successful in securing grants in this round of the Food Processing in Regional Australia Programme, representing a cross-section of food industries from gourmet cheeses to jams and seafood. “Playing with Fire will use their funds to purchase processing equipment for manufacturing a range of products produced from Australian native foods. I understand the company sources a variety of native foods from around the country to produce a number of products and it’s wonderful they will now have the capacity to grow their business.” FPRAP grants provide up to $200,000 to small to medium-sized companies for projects that will benefit rural and regional communities.
