Australia’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest levels since 1974, with ABS Labor Force figures released yesterday revealing a jobless rate of just 4.4 per cent, NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash said.
“ABS data showed the number of unemployed Australians dropped by 5,600 in April, with 257,400 fewer people now out of work than when the Coalition came to office,” Senator Nash said.
“326,200 jobs have been created since March 2006 demonstrating just how the Coalition Government’s labour market reforms have put more Australians into the workplace than ever before,” Senator Nash said.
“Seasonally adjusted employment grew by 49,600 over the month, now standing at a record high of 10, 416, 600.”
Senator Nash explained that full-time employment increased by 11,600 in April, reaching a record high of 7,453,300. Part-time employment increased by 38,000 to 2,963,400 – also a record high.
Since the Coalition Government came to office, more than 2 million jobs have been created, almost 1.2 million of which have been full-time positions.
