Grants of up to $10,000 are available for young people in the local area with innovative ideas to improve the competitiveness of our rural industries, NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash said today. Senator Nash said the Federal Coalition Government is offering grants for scientific research to develop better on-farm technology and practices under the 2007 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. “I encourage anyone aged between 18 to 35 who has ideas for projects that will provide long term benefits to our agriculture and related industries to apply for a grant,” Senator Nash said. “There are 18 awards on offer this year with each recipient receiving up to $10,000 for their project. “Previous winners have benefited greatly from this awards program which has helped kick-start careers for talented young Australians while delivering long-term benefits to farmers and rural communities.” The awards are sponsored by the Federal Coalition Government and rural Research and Development Corporations (RDCs) including Australian Pork Ltd, Cotton RDC, Fisheries RDC, Forest & Wood Products RDC, Grains RDC, Grape & Wine RDC, Land & Water Australia, Meat and Livestock Australia, the Rural Industries RDC and Sugar RDC. The awards are co-ordinated by the Bureau of Rural Sciences, which is part of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
