$870,000 has been allocated by the Federal Coalition Government for two black spot road projects in Richmond, NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash announced today. Senator Nash said the funding will go toward works to upgrade the section of Terranora Road between Balfours Road and Corkwood Road and to upgrade part of the Lismore-Bangalow Road. “The $870,000 allocated to these projects is part of the Federal Coalition Government’s $44.5 million AusLink Black Spot Programme which provides funding for projects aimed at improving the conditions of high casualty accident areas across the country,” Senator Nash said. “Today’s funding includes $650,000 to widen the curve and install guardrails on a section of the Terranora Road and $220,000 to install safety cameras and resurface part of the Lismore-Bangalow Road near Springvale Road. “All levels of government need to work together to help reduce the death toll on our nations roads and this funding will certainly go a long way to improving road safety in the area,” Senator Nash said. Senator Nash said the funding from the Federal Coalition Government will be made available in the next financial year. In recognition of its success, the Federal Coalition Government has extended the programme – now in its 12th year – for a further two years from 2006-07 to 2007-08 at a cost of $90 million. During this period, an evaluation of the AusLink Black Spot Programme is being carried out by the Bureau of Transport and Regional Economics which will update the research it carried out in 2001.
