Nationals Senator, Fiona Nash, has proposed an itinerary for the new Greens Leader, Christine Milne’s planned regional tour.
Murray Darling Basin – Meet with irrigation communities such as Griffith in NSW and explain why the Greens want to take7600gigalitres from them for the environment.
Carbon tax - Meet with dairy farmers and explain why the Greens, and herself as a dairy farmer’s daughter, have pushed for a carbon tax that will cost farmers thousands of dollars extra in costs each year. Dairy Australia says it will be an additional impost of up to $7000 a year for dairy farmers
[1].
Carbon tax – Meet with abattoirs and explain the Greens rationale for a carbon tax that will cost meat processors hundreds of thousands of dollars extra in costs each year. Recommend a visit to Bindaree Beef in northern NSW which says the impact of the carbon tax will be at least $2.7 million in the first year alone.
[2]
Carbon tax – Meet with regional airlines such as Regional Express (REX) to justify the carbon tax. REX states the carbon tax combined with the axing of the en route rebate scheme, additional fuel excise and increased security screening will cost the airline at least $6 million a year alone.
[3] REX services to Taree, Grafton, Moruya, Bathurst and others are subsequently under threat.

Coal industry – Visit coal mining towns and explain to locals why the Greens want to shut the industry down and stop expansion, costing thousands of jobs.
Live exports – Visit cattle properties in the Top End which rely on the export trade for a living. Listen to how the Greens policy to shut down the industry will devastate families.
Forestry – Visit timber communities and explain why the Greens want to end logging in native forests, affecting jobs and livelihoods.
Fishing industry – Visit fishing communities and explain why the Greens want more marine reserves that will ban fishing, with widespread effects on the industry.
National Parks – Visit and listen to farmers who’ve experienced the consequences of nearby National Parks being closed, such as feral pests and wild dogs mauling their livestock. Suggest she take with her members of the NSW Greens who want more National Parks closed.
Senator Nash said Christine Milne should take up her suggested itinerary if she’s to get any sense of the damage the Labor-Greens government is doing to regional Australia. Senator Nash said she’ll even offer to coordinate the visits.
“Christine Milne said the Greens had misunderstood the needs of farmers and those living in the bush for some time. She’s spot on the money there,” Senator Nash said.
“Now she’s apparently planning a listening tour of regional and rural Australia to make amends.
“Regional people are rightly cynical of the Greens’ agenda.
“Christine Milne is delusional if she thinks she can convince them that the Greens are on their side when they’re hell bent on pushing ahead with their extreme policies.”
