Greens carbon tax poll a joke

The Nationals Senator for NSW, Fiona Nash, said a poll commissioned by the Greens is manipulative and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

The Greens reportedly commissioned a Galaxy poll that found two thirds of 1036 people surveyed support a carbon tax if the revenue is spent on compensation.

The Herald Sun reports the survey asked participants if they “supported or opposed a price on carbon that would tax the biggest polluting industries and return all the money to compensate households and business and provide investment in climate change schemes such as renewable energy”.

“The question is pointed and the response predictable. It’s like asking someone who’s won the lottery if they’ll pay off their debts.

“I challenge the Greens to survey low to middle income, and rural backgrounds, and ask them outright if they support a carbon tax or not. I have no doubt there’d be a much different response.”

Senator Nash said the Labor-Greens carbon tax plan has no credibility when it is scant on detail, especially on compensation.

“There’s much speculation about how much compensation there’ll be but the question that should be asked, and answered, is how long will it go for?

“With Labor’s debt climbing, don’t expect it to be ongoing. A temporary fix will not compensate Australians for a long term cost burden.”
