The Productivity Commission is holding a public forum in Dubbo on Wednesday 9 December to discuss wheat export marketing arrangements.
Senator Fiona Nash, Deputy Leader of the Nationals in the Senate, will attend the public forum to support growers who are able to take time away from harvesting. She will also attend a public hearing in Sydney on Friday 11 December.
“As ill-timed as this round of forums and hearings is, it is important that the Labor Government gets to hear first-hand how the new wheat marketing arrangements are affecting growers,” Senator Nash said.
“I am hopeful that some growers can attend on Wednesday. I know they were extremely disappointed with the timing which the Productivity Commission admitted was ‘inopportune’.
“Growers were promised an inquiry as part of the transition away from a single desk. As bad as the timing is, we must make sure the Government hears the concerns of growers.”
Wednesday’s forum is at the Cattleman’s Country Motor Inn, 8 Whylandra Street, Dubbo, from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Friday’s hearing is at the Medina on Crown, 359 Crown Street, Surry Hills, from 9am to 4.30pm.
