A free call number was opened today by the Federal Coalition Government to enable consumers to report any difficulties they are experiencing with the new Next G network, NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash said. “The Next G Customer Support Unit has been established by the Government in response to the feedback many MPs and Senators are getting across the country that mobile phone users are far from satisfied with the coverage and services provided by the Next G network,” Senator Nash said. “Consumers who have feedback regarding the performance and services of the Next G network can phone the toll free number 1800 883 488, and talk to an operator who will log their concerns. As always, mobile phone users also have the option of contacting my office to lodge their complaints on free call 1300 734 681. “These concerns will then be passed directly to Telstra’s management and will also be used by the Government to determine whether or not Telstra is delivering the coverage and services they have always promised to provide.” An independent audit of Telstra’s point-of-sale advice and product availability will also be carried out by the Next G Customer Support Group. “Access to adequate mobile phone coverage is a paramount concern among rural and regional communities, and while Telstra has promised to replicate the coverage and services provided by the CDMA network, mobile phone users on the ground are telling us this is not yet the case,” Senator Nash said. “This is not good enough and the Government, by way of licence condition, will ensure Telstra does not shut off the CDMA network until the Next G network is able to provide equal if not better coverage and services.” Media contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
