The Federal Liberal/Nationals Government will provide $401,830 in the 2007-08 financial year for the Aged Care Assessment Program (ACAP) in Richmond, NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash said today. “Local federal Nationals candidate Dr Sue Page has been in constant contact with me about the need for better health and aged care services for Tweed seniors and I am delighted we have been able to deliver this outcome,” Senator Nash said. The funding will enable the Tweed Valley Aged Care Assessment Team or ACAT to provide quality and timely assessments, support and referral of frail older people to appropriate care services. “The Aged Care Assessment Program is vital to ensuring the frail in our communities who may not be able to manage at home without assistance, receive advice about appropriate care services,” Senator Nash said. “The Aged Care Assessment Teams which are made up of a variety of health professionals including doctors, nurses, social workers and physiotherapists, assess and approve older Australians for aged care services which may include residential aged care, Community Aged Care Packages or Extended Aged Care at Home or Transition Care.” ACAT members can visit people in their home or in hospital. Information about the closest ACAT is available from the Commonwealth Carelink Centres on 1800 052 222. Alternatively, local doctors can put patients in contact with their local ACAT.
