WORK STARTS ON WOMMIN BAY VILLAGE PROJECT

NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash was in Kingscliff today to help turn the first sod on construction of the new multi-purpose room at the Wommin Bay Hostel. Senator Nash said the project, to be funded by the Federal Coalition Government’s Regional Partnerships programme and money contributed locally through donations and fund-raising, is a perfect example of what can be achieved when local groups work together to achieve goals aimed at improving their community. “I’m delighted to be here today to witness the start of construction of what has been an eagerly anticipated project here at the Wommin Bay Hostel,” Senator Nash said. “The Federal Coalition Government has contributed $46,860 to the project through the Regional Partnerships programme, and together with the money community groups and organisations have contributed, will help ensure the construction of what will be a wonderful asset for the hostel and indeed the wider community. “The multi-purpose room will provide residents with an area where they can enjoy quiet time for activities like reading, relaxation and gentle exercise, which up until now, there hasn’t been a specific area for. “The room can also be used for small functions and church services and most importantly, can be used as a place where residents and families can be offered counselling. “The community has contributed a great deal of support in getting this project off the ground, and I congratulate them for their support in helping to provide a wonderful facility that can be enjoyed by residents and their families for years to come.” The Federal Coalition Government’s Regional Partnerships programme continues the Federal Government’s approach of working with local communities to support their ideas. A total of $270.5 million is available under the Regional Partnerships programme from 2006 – 07 to 2009 – 10. Media contact: Julie Siegert 0429 818 600
