Nationals Remain Dead Against Emissions Training Scheme

The National Party will not support an emissions trading scheme, regardless of any concessions for farmers.

The Federal Government could drop agriculture from the trading scheme after the Opposition demanded several key changes to the legislation.

But despite the National Farmers Federation backing the amendments, Nationals Senator Fiona Nash says she will not support them.

"I fail to see any amendments or any changes that can be made to this scheme that will result in there being no negative impact on regional communities. I simply can't see it," she says.

"And my job is to protect regional communities, to stand up for regional communities, and while there is a negative impact from an emissions trading scheme, I will not support it."
